Hope Self

Congratulations Hope Self!

Hope Self, daughter of Rita and the late Steve Self has been named February student of the month at Henry-Senachwine High School. Hope was selected from a group of students nominated by the faculty. The selection committee consists of several high school teachers and the principal.

Academically, Hope has been on the high honor roll for all five semesters.  She is currently taking challenging coursework including dual credit courses through ICC as well as AP courses at HSHS to prepare for her future after high school. She loves all her classes at HSHS but especially enjoys science and math. Hope was chosen last summer to represent Henry-Senachwine High School at the Hugh O'Brian Youth (HOBY) Foundation Virtual Leadership Conference.

Hope is actively involved in many organizations. She is currently vice president of Student Council and Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), president of the Class of 2022, along with being a member of Relay for Life, Club Green, Fellowship of Chrisitan Athletes (FCA), Lady Mallard Athletic Club (LMAC) and Math Team.

Athletics are also a big part of Hope’s day at HSHS. She has been involved in volleyball, softball, basketball and dance each year. This fall, due to COVID,  she also had the opportunity to join cross country and received All-Conference and All-Area honors for her efforts. She is very excited to begin playing sports once again in the upcoming weeks.

Outside of school, Hope enjoys giving back to the community through various service projects. Some of her latest projects have been volunteering at #choosejoy events for the Dravet Syndrome Foundation, being named to the Ronald McDonald House of Central Illinois Teen Council which raises money for the Ronald McDonald House in Peoria, and raising money through “Fear the Flock” for the HSHS Relay for Life team.

Hope has enjoyed every bit of being a student in the Henry-Senachwine School District and living in the Henry community. So much so that her current dream is to attend college to become a science or math teacher, get hired at HSHS to work with her favorite teachers and live with her mom forever. She is also contemplating a profession in computer science.

On Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at the school board meeting, Hope will be presented with an engraved pen set from the Henry-Senachwine Education Association and a personalized plaque from the district designating her as “Student of the Month.” In addition, she will receive a $25.00 gift certificate from Heartland Bank in Henry and a $10.00 savings bond from the Henry Dairy Queen.

The student body, faculty and the community congratulate Hope on receiving this honor in recognition of her accomplishments and contributions at HSHS!
