Maya Johnson, the daughter of Lisa and Doug Johnson, has been named the May Student of the month at Henry-Senachwine High School. Maya was selected from a group of students nominated by the faculty. The selection committee consists of high school teachers and the principal.
Maya is a senior at HSHS and is actively involved in the school and student life. Maya has been an Honor Roll student for four years and a National Honor Society member for two years. She has participated in Cooking Club four years; FCA four years; HSHS Gives Back four years; MAC four years; Kindness Quack Pack one year; and MDWAP three years. She has participated in Volleyball and Cheerleading for four years.
Outside of school, Maya volunteers with Choose Joy and Extra Love events, and she also served on a mission trip through Northwoods Church.
After high school, Maya plans to attend Carthage College, majoring in nursing with an end goal of becoming a developmental disability nurse.
On Wednesday, May 20th, 2026, at the school board meeting, Maya will be presented with an engraved pen set from the Henry-Senachwine Education Association and a personalized plaque from the district designating her as "Student of the Month." In addition, she will receive a $25.00 gift certificate from Heartland Bank in Henry and a $25.00 gift card from MidAmerica National Bank in Henry.
