School Days During Inclement Weather

Dear Henry-Senachwine Families:

As we prepare for inclement weather during the coming winter months, we wanted to provide you with information in the event we need to cancel school, have a late start, or use an e-learning day instead of canceling or delaying school.

Decisions regarding school day plans due to inclement weather will be broadcast as soon as they are made.  In the event school is cancelled, starting late or we decide to use an e-learning day, notification will be provided through:

  1. The school district phone/text alert system

  2. The school district website at www.hscud5.org

  3. Peoria-area televisions stations (WEEK, WMBD, WHOI, WYZZ)

  4. Local radio stations (including, WOLF - 99.3 FM, WRVY - 100.5 FM, WALLS - 102.1 FM, WMBD 1470 AM)

Use of an E-Learning Day during inclement weather:

If inclement weather prevents us from attending school in-person, we may decide to hold school using an e-learning day instead of cancelling school.

In the event we decide to use an e-learning day, you will be notified in the same manner you are notified of a school cancellation or delay.

Students will access their teachers and classes remotely for the day.

Teachers and staff will be available from 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. during e-learning days to provide instruction/lessons, post work, and answer questions.

Your child’s school/teacher will provide you with additional information on specific e-learning day logistics (check-in, attendance, participation, etc..).

For families who do not have electronic/remote access on e-learning days, paper packets will be made available and students will be provided extended time for completion of lesson(s).

Use of a Late Start during inclement weather:

Instead of cancelling school for an entire day, we may utilize a late start as an option.  In the event a late start occurs, please note the following:

  1. You will be notified of a late start in the same manner you are notified of a school cancellation.

  2. Schools will be open to accept students at 9:40 a.m. and classes will begin at 10:00 a.m.  Dismissal will occur at its regularly scheduled time.

  3. Bus transportation will operate, but using a delayed schedule.  If your student rides the bus, anticipate the bus arriving approximately 90 minutes later on late start days.

Please review the above information to plan for your child’s school attendance during inclement weather.
