Henry-Senachwine High School Government Teacher, Alexa Damerell took a handful of students (Andon McQuade, Harper Schrock, Daniel Hill, and Alexia Serpette) to participate in State Senator Thomas Bennett's Fall 2023 Youth Advisory Council at the Eagle Performing Arts and Conference Center in Pontiac, Illinois on Wednesday, December 6th.
The students were able to discuss public policy issues and will be able to debate these at the spring session at the state Capitol. In the spring, the students will travel to Springfield for the day and be able to experience the legislative process and participate in a mock committee. The goal behind this initiative is to engage students who may be potentially interested in public service careers, connect them with elected officials and other leaders, and give them a unique opportunity to learn how our legislative process truly works.
