Graduations and End of Year Schedule

Dear Henry-Senachwine Students and Families:

Thank you for all your hard work and support during this challenging time. We are proud of our students, teachers, support staff, and grateful to all our parents and families for doing their best to sustain a quality education during the past two months. Having found new ways to recognize and celebrate our graduates during this time, we wish you all the best as the school year concludes and we look to the future. Congratulations to our eighth grade graduates and the HSHS graduating Class of 2020!

Please see the information below regarding graduations, prom, meals, and end of year schedule below. We have amended the end of year calendar - the last day for remote learning and student attendance is now Friday, May 15th.


Graduation Ceremony Information

Given social distancing requirements and guidance provided by the Illinois State Board of Education and the Illinois Department of Public Health, graduation ceremonies will be as follows:

HSHS Class of 2020

The celebration and graduation of the HSHS Class of 2020 will be conducted virtually this year. A virtual graduation ceremony video will be created, including photos, audio, and videos of a graduate processional, graduates giving commencement speeches, receiving diplomas/walking across the stage, and being recognized for achievements. The graduation stage will be set-up and students and families will be contacted next week to schedule a time to come to HSHS to be videoed and photographed for the virtual ceremony (in cap & gown). The students/families will be provided with a set of professional graduation photos at no charge. Viewing information will be provided to students and their families. The virtual ceremony can be viewed on the scheduled graduation date and time of Sunday, May 24th at 2:00 p.m.


Additional information to students & families will be provided in the coming days from Dr. Hill.


8th Grade Graduation:

The celebration and graduation of our 8th grade class will be conducted using a drive-through format this year. Students and families will proceed through the main drive at HSGS/JH in their vehicles. Each graduate and family will be able to pull up to an outside stage and the graduate will be able to walk across the stage and receive a diploma in his/her gown. The drive through ceremony is scheduled for Friday, May 22 at 6:00 p.m.  

Additional information to students & families will be provided in the coming days from Dr. Nelson.


The alternate 8th grade and HSHS graduation dates previously schedule for June and July have been cancelled.

Your child’s school will be in contact regarding details of pick-up/drop-off during the week of May 18th.

Friday, May 22              8th Grade Graduation Ceremony (drive-through) - 6:00 p.m
Sunday, May 24           HSHS Class of 2020 Graduation Ceremony (virtual/video) - 2:00 p.m.

Saturday, June 27       HSHS Prom has been cancelled due to social distancing guidelines.

Regarding the end of year and summer events, we will continue to follow guidance issued by the State of Illinois, Illinois State Board of Education, and public health officials.

Meal Distribution

The district will deliver meals for pick-up at the following locations through Thursday, May 21st.

HSGS/JH - Pick-up time 10:00 a.m.
Parking Lot across from St. John’s (St. Mary’s) - Pick-up time 11:00 a.m.
Parking Lot of Putnam Christian Church - Pick-up time 11:00 a.m.
Autumn Ridge Estates - Pick-up time 11:00 a.m.
Marshall Homes Park - Pick-up time 11:00 a.m.

To request meals for your student(s), please contact your student’s school office (High School at 309-364-2829 or Grade/Junior High School at 309-364-2531) or email our food service director, Mrs. Laurie Carroll, at lcarroll@hscud5.org by Noon the day prior to meal pick-up. When requesting meals provide the number and name of students and identify one of the above locations where you will pick up the food.

If you have already requested, you do not need to request again. Please note that meals are free to all students PK-12
